CORPUS CHRISTI - Former Taft High School Band Director Roy Hinojosa was arrested last night on a charge of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
On Wednesday, police in Sinton were tipped off that Hinojosa was inside a hotel room with a 17-year-old female student. According to police documents, the girl told officers she and Hinojosa met at the Best Western Inn and had sex.
Hinojosa was put on administrative leave by the school district on Wednesday, but later resigned.
Because they are both considered adults this is not a rape or sexual assault case. However, in Texas, it's illegal for an educator to have a relationship with a student.
Hinojosa bonded out of jail earlier today.
