Former Robstown Officer Jailed on Sex Assault Charge

ROBSTOWN - A former officer for the Robstown Police Department is now in custody on charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he met while working patrol at Ortiz Intermediate School.

Ernest Martinez IV surrendered about an hour ago and is making his first appearance before a magistrate.

The arrest affidavit for Martinez states a girl told police her sister had sex with him. During a follow-up, the alleged victim told police Martinez contacted her through Facebook and the two agreed to meet at his garage apartment.

The documents state he asked the girl three times if she wanted to have sex before she said yes. About two weeks later, they stopped communicating with each other.

Officers asked the teen's grandmother if she knew about the sex. She said she did, but didn't call police because the 14-year-old girl got mad.

Martinez resigned from the Robstown Police Department on September 28th. We've learned since then he has attempted to get jobs at Rockport PD and Taft PD without success.
