CORPUS CHRISTI -- More than a dozen former guards from the McConnell Prison Unit in Beeville have been sentence for their involvement in a massive racketeering case.
The fourteen guards were arrested during a 2009 investigation in what prosecutors had described as a "culture of corruption" inside the unit.
Former guards were accused of smuggling everything from cell phones and drugs into the prison.
Most of the guards were convicted of racketeering, and their sentences range from a few months to more than two years.
Eleven other people, including four inmates, also face charges in the case.
