MCALLEN, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man charged with continuous sexual assault of a minor over a period of years previously worked as a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
A patrol spokesman says 33-year-old Jaime Ocanas had been assigned to the agency's Rio Grande City station. Most recently, Ocanas worked for the police force at the McAllen Independent School District in South Texas from December 2007 until he was fired Dec. 17.
Court records indicate a woman told Pharr police in October that Ocanas had sexually assaulted her between November 1998 and November 2004, beginning when she was 11 years old. Pharr police arrested Ocanas Jan. 2, and he was released on bond the next day.
Reached by phone Monday, Ocanas told The Associated Press he had no comment.
