SAN ANTONIO - Mike Foltynewicz was electric in his Double-A debut and George Springer and Domingo Santana belted back-to-back home runs as the Hooks authored their sixth shutout of the season with a 3-0 triumph over San Antonio on Monday afternoon at Wolff Stadium.
Foltynewicz, the 19th overall pick in the 2010 draft, struck out eight of the first nine batters he faced until Cody Decker's lead-off single in the fifth. Foltynewicz's fastball ranged from 97 to 99 mph during his five-inning, one-hit performance. He walked one and fanned nine, throwing 53 of 76 pitches for strikes.
Donn Roach was impressive thru six for the Missions. The right-hander allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out five. Jeremy McBride kept the Hooks off the board in the seventh before giving way to Matt Stites.
Stites, who got two quick outs to open the eighth, yielded a bunt base hit from Ben Orloff. Springer was next and crunched his Texas League leading 11th home run of the season to left field. Two pitches later, Domingo Santana went deep to right for his fourth round-tripper of the year.
David Martinez, who owns a circuit-best 0.87 ERA, allowed just two hits and one walk thru 3.1 innings. He has not permitted an earned run over his last five outings.
Alex Sogard fashioned his second save by getting the final out - a deep fly to right - with the bases loaded.
