CORPUS CHRISTI - Flour Bluff ISD posted an online notice to parents about a kindergartner who was found to have an unloaded pistol in his backpack this morning. Parents were also notified via a telephone alerting system. A spokesperson for the district says police determined the pistol is a "high grade replica", not a real weapon.
According to the district's website, the child told his teacher he had the weapon. Officials say the child told them he had the gun on his dresser at home for some time and he just brought it to school to show others.
The finding was reported to administration and the Corpus Christi Police Department. The pistol is now in the possession of the police department as they continue to investigate. Child Protective Services is also looking into the incident.
