CORPUS CHRISTI - The Flour Bluff mother whose son was placed on the wrong bus Monday got the apology she wanted today from the Flour Bluff ISD.
April Vasquez was able to get some closure on what she called every parent's worst nightmare. Her 6 year old son was placed on the wrong school bus, and he didn't get home until after six. Well Vasquez said the district told her they are working to make sure that doesn't happen again.
"It's terrifying, it's terrifying not knowing where your kid is... And the school not knowing where your kid is," said Vasquez.
Vasquez says she finally got the apology she had been asking for, and a little more.
She said that the school district told her that they'd talk to the principal at Flour Bluff Primary, and the Transportation Department to try and put some better protocols in place to make sure that something like that doesn't happen again.
While Vasquez says she is happy that the district was so responsive to her complaint, she says in the end it's one she never should have had to make.
"The bottom line is it could have been prevented because the bus driver said this boy doest not belong on the bus," said Vasquez.
Vasquez said that experience has made her lose trust in the school district, but the important thing is her son is fine and he didn't seem to mind taking the scenic route home Monday after school.
"He was like, I just went on a long ride. I saw the ocean. He was real cool... Real cool about it," said Vasquez.
Vasquez said despite what happened Monday, her son was ready to ride that big yellow school bus again Tuesday morning. He rode it to and from school. This time he was able to make it back home without any detours.
