Flags to Fly at Half-Staff for Judge Greenwell

CORPUS CHRISTI - Governor Rick Perry has authorized flags to fly at half-staff in honor of 319 District Court Judge Tom Greenwell until his burial as early as next week. The approval covers Nueces county and surrounding counties.

Judge Greenwell was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his courthouse office on Monday evening.

Sheriff Jim Kaelin says his investigators are looking into why Greenwell chose to take his own life. The investigation is focusing on two persons of interest, the judge's financial records and his personal life.

First elected as a Republican in 2001, Greenwell was well-liked and respected by colleagues in the legal system and law enforcement.
