CORPUS CHRISTI - The 4th of July holiday weekend is just around the corner. Before you load up on fireworks be sure you know the rules.
No too long ago it was illegal to go to a fireworks stand, buy fireworks, and bring them back within city limits.
Just last year a law was passed saying police or firefighters cannot take your fireworks if you're taking them into the city, but they have to be transported a specific way.
Basically, if you have fireworks in your car they have to be out of reach of not only the driver but everyone else in the car as well.
The use of fireworks in the city is illegal. They can only be used at least 5,000 feet outside city limits. Otherwise you could be asked to pay a pretty stiff fine.
Both the fire department and police will be out looking for people breaking the law.
Just because its not against the law to light fireworks in the county doesn't necessarily mean you're still allowed to do it. Be sure to check and make sure the county you live in is not under a burn ban.
