CORPUS CHRISTI -- Police say an elderly man made it out of his home safely after it caught on fire.
Firefighters rushed out to the 200 block of Ocean Way around 11:30 Friday night.
Heavy smoke was coming from the front of the house.
Firefighters say fighting the blaze wasn't easy because the homeowner had large boxes blocking their way and it slowed them down.
One of the men said, "When the firefighters go into a situation like this with that heavy of smoke, it's very difficult to get your bearings and when there's a lot of debris piled up on the floor and along the walls it's even more difficult."
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
