HOUSTON - Authorities say a central Texas firefighter died trying to rescue his wife and children from their burning home.
Tow Volunteer Fire Department Chief Josh Becker tells KHOU that firefighter Ronald Sanderson went into his burning home Friday because he didn't realize his wife and three younger children had gotten out safely. He says opening the door created a draft that fueled the fire.
By the time fellow volunteer firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed and had collapsed on itself. Tow is located about 50 miles northwest of Austin.
Sanderson, who was a member of the volunteer fire department of 10 years, had two adult children from previous relationships.
