CORPUS CHRISTI -- Flames destroyed a business on the city's westside and caused some dangerous moments for firefighters.
Dark smoke and bright orange flames burst from the building on Flato near Agnes this afternoon and people could see the smoke from miles away.
Crews got to the warehouse -- called Kennedy Wire Rope and Sling Company -- just about five minutes after the fire started.
Investigators say the blaze began in office space at the front of the building but they're still trying to figure out what caused it.
At one point...the flames inside got so hot inside firefighters evacuated the building and tried fighting it from the outside.
But that proved to be difficult too -- especially when part of the building collapsed -- and the fire spread.
The warehouse was empty when the blaze started.
Nearly 40 firefighters helped to douse the flames.
No one was hurt.
The company -- housed in the building -- supplies wire rope, rigging hardware, slings and other oil-field products.
