Fire Damages Several Units at Storage Complex, Fire Truck Finds Sinkhole

CORPUS CHRISTI--A fire broke out at a storage facility on the Island late Saturday morning.

It happened around noon, at the Island Storage Company in the 15000 block of South Padre Island Drive.
The CCFD says 20 units were damaged, some by flames, others by smoke and water as crews worked to douse the flames.
The investigation isn't over but fire officials believe that it is not arson and that it started inside a unit with lawn equipment inside, no one was hurt.

During the fire, a fire truck who had attached itself to a fire hydrant had to be rescued as a sinkhole developed under the hydrant. The pipes under the hydrant broke, leaking water underground and under the fire truck.

The ground started to give way, pinning the fire truck for several minutes. The fire truck was eventually towed from the hole and city crews went to work to replace the water line and fill in the hole.

No one was hurt in that mishap.
