CORPUS CHRISTI - It took three years of planning and fundraising, but ground was finally broken today on Corpus Christi's new Miracle League Field. It will be built on a 42-acre piece of city property on Airline Road, across the street from the Gabe Lozano Golf Course.

Members of the Community Leadership Committee, who helped raise the $500,000 need to break ground, were on hand to turn the first shovels of dirt for the project.

The Miracle Field will look like this one, featuring a rubberized playing surface where developmentally disabled children and adults can play baseball and softball. There will also be barrier-free dugouts, a concession stand, and spectator seating.

The site plan also calls for soccer and football fields, a modular skate park, a small amphitheater, and an airstrip to fly model airplanes.
