SAN ANTONIO - An 11-month-old baby is safe with relatives and a murder suspect is in custody, nine days after police issued an Amber Alert for central and southern Texas.
Police said 23-year-old Jonathan Guillen was arrested around seven o'clock Wednesday night in a San Antonio home.
He was in a back bedroom holding his 11-month-old son, Jonathan Guillen Jr., but willingly gave him to a sergeant, police said. The child is in good health and is now with relatives.
As he was taken into custody Guillen told reporters, "I want to say to my son, I love you, man. I love you with all my heart. I didn't leave you, they took me from you. Don't let nobody tell you different."
Guillen is charged with murder for allegedly shooting his mother's estranged boyfriend, 44-year-old Ernest Garcia on December 13th after police say Garcia punched Guillen's mother in the face.
His mother said Guillen took the infant when he left the scene and police issued an Amber Alert four days later.
A Crime Stoppers tip lead officers to the home, where they believe at least one person was related to the suspect.
Police did what's called a "knock and talk," where officers were allowed inside the residence and people inside the home lead officers to Guillen in a back bedroom.
detectives believe he was in san antonio since the murder.
According to police, Child Protective Services has put a safety plan together for the child.
