CORPUS CHRISTI -- The family of a 75-year old woman who was hit and killed by a car on Ayers Wednesday night says she hadn't missed a bingo night in years.

Police say Elva Gonzalez was on her way to play bingo when she was hit by a car on Ayers Street near Roosevelt. The 51-year old driver told police he just didn't see the elderly woman until he hit her. Police say the victim was not in a crosswalk and the driver will not face any charges.

Elva's son, Arnulfo Gonzalez says her favorite past time was hitting the bingo halls in town.

"She was on her way to bingo and obviously never made it," Arnulfo said.

Elva loved to play at the Corpus Christi Bingo Center, Arnulfo says it was like a second home for her and she could be found any day of the week.

"She was an avid Bingo player and she'd been going to the bingo for the last 20 or so years," he said.

Arnulfo says no matter which way the numbers were called Elva always thought she was a winner. "I think she spent way way way more than she ever won and of course every time she won she said she was ahead."

Elva is survived by many family members including her 8 children and 17 grandchildren who are all taking this unexpected loss very hard.

"It was horrible but I'm sure that mom had a great life, had a lot of friends, had a lot of kids that loved her and grandkids that loved her," Arnulfo said.

He says he wanted to speak to the driver of the Ford Taurus, to tell him he understands it was just an accident.

"He was very upset, very emotional and we just wanted to tell him that it was an accident, for him not to bare the burden, I'm mean I'm sure it was hard for him," Arnulfo said.

As for the family they all met together at Elva's home to prepare a collage for her rosary.
