Family Raises Funds For Drowning Victim's Funeral

ALICE -- The family of the 7-year-old girl who drowned over the weekend will lay her to rest tomorrow.

The family cannot afford the cost of the funeral, so today the community came out to help.

"Seven years old," little Allison Campos' grandmother, Dolores sobbed, "it's sad, it's very very sad. It does hurt." We spoke with her as she sat before a line filled with people wanting to help.

Campos and her family spent the day making barbeque plates for a fundraiser for the little girl they lost.

"Allison, she was pretty, she was quiet, she said she wanted to be a cheerleader," Campos recalled.

All services will be held at Rosas Funeral Home in Alice tomorrow. Since the family is limited on money, the funeral home is having a one-day service for Allison.

People from all over went to pick up a plate or two and help the family pay the unexpected expense.

Most in line for food didn't know little Allison, but hearing her story compelled them to help.

"Yeah, just drove by I was doing some jobs up here and saw the signs," George Arrendondo told us, "I saw the picture that I recognized on the news," he said.

The family hopes sharing Allison's story keeps others from going through the tragedy they're now living.

Her grandmother won't soon forget the day that started as a fun adventure at the pool and ended with her watching her die in the hospital.

"They brought her back to life for 2-3 minutes, then she went again into cardiac arrest," Campos recalled, "then, she was gone."

Allison's death is ruled an accidental drowning, but the Robstown pool where it happened is still closed today.

UPDATE: Wednesday evening, a relative of Allison Campos said they raised enough money at the BBQ fundraiser to pay for Allison's funeral. She said the family is grateful to everyone who came out and supported them.
