SAN DIEGO - A San Diego man has died after being struck by a car late last night. The family of 49-year-old Jose Alaniz is just devastated he was ripped away from them at such a young age.
He leaves behind siblings, parents, and children who all wanted to share with us a little bit of what he was like as a person.
"He was a wonderful son," said Lillian Alaniz with tears swelling in her eyes, "I love him to death. I'm going to miss him very much."
The death of a son is an unimaginable burden for a mother or father, but for Alaniz, the death of her son Jose, is the second death of a child she's had to bear.
Today the family got together at home in shock over the loss of such a wonderful man. Family members say that Alaniz decided to go to the store late that night but his vision wasn't great. He was walking along FM 1329 when a vehicle came and struck him ending his life.
Alaniz, father to two young teenage girls, Alyssa and Bryanna, and stepfather to another 22-year-old named Josh was the kind of person who was always there to help.
"You need anything, mom, just call me," said Alaniz recalling the generosity of her son, "let me know if you need anything. He was a wonderful son. I will miss him very much."
Jose Alaniz loved the Dallas Cowboys, loved to landscape but his family said he had an extraordinary love for the Lord. Relatives say he brought his bible everywhere and would often refer to his favorite verse in the book of Psalm.
While the hurt is almost unbearable for this grief stricken family, they know that Alaniz had strong faith and they'll, no doubt, visit him again some day. The family said, while it's impossible to determine exactly what happened the night of the crash, they don't blame the driver of the car whatsoever.
Police said the accident is an ongoing investigation and they're not sure if they're going to cite the driver just yet.
