SAN ANTONIO - A former bank teller has returned to Texas to face charges that he stole nearly $108,000 from the financial institution and fled the country.
The FBI arrested Pedro Godinez after he voluntarily returned to San Antonio on a flight from Mexico. Investigators say Godinez faces theft charges related to a Bank of America branch in Lakeway, near Austin.
The San Antonio Express-News reports Godinez disappeared from his job on Jan. 29, 2009.
Investigators say surveillance video shows Godinez walking into the vault and allegedly removing a cash packet that had $80,000 worth of $100 bills. Nearly $28,000 turned up missing from the defendant's cash drawer.
Godinez was arrested Tuesday at San Antonio International Airport. A judge Wednesday freed Godinez to the custody of his mother.
Godinez didn't immediately comment.
