CORPUS CHRISTI - A man who ran from the Nueces County Courthouse Friday afternoon faces charges of evading arrest after he tried to steal two police cars.
According to police, Jose Rodriguez took off while being moved into the jail. Officers say he first tried to carjack an AEP worker's pickup truck, but the worker fought back.
Rodriguez then took off running towards Antelope and I-37. Police set up a perimeter to search for him, when out of the blue he came running from Howard's BBQ.
Our camera was there as he jumped behind the wheel of a police car, but found out the keys were not in the ignition. He jumped out, headed around the building and came back for another try. This time, he locked the doors to keep police out.
The officers just busted out the window to get him. One officer did notice the passenger side window was rolled down and just unlocked the door.
The 37-year-old is also accused of a stabbing at the Cactus Motel earlier the same day.
