CAIRO -- Egyptian troops have been deployed to quell rioting that's killed at least 27 people in the Mediterranean city of Port Said today.
The violence erupted after a judge sentenced 21 people to death in connection with a melee last year at a soccer match that killed 74 fans of a Cairo-based team.
The club is near a prison residents tried to storm Saturday to free defendants in the soccer trial. The military has been deployed to try and restore security.
Yesterday, 11 people were killed in clashes between police and protesters marking the second anniversary of the uprising that overthrew longtime leader Hosni Mubarak.
