CHILE - A massive earthquake hit off the northern coast of Chile, killing at least five people and leaving many others seriously hurt.
The magnitude 8.2 quake forced evacuations along the country's entire pacific coast for fear of tsunamis.
Officials say about 900,000 people left the region.
Neighboring countries Bolivia and Peru also felt the effects. People were also evacuated from buildings there.
US officials say they've found no threat of a tsunami along the coasts of Alaska, California, Oregon or Washington, as a result this earthquake.
Any danger to Hawaii should be limited to potentially strong currents at beaches.
