CORPUS CHRISTI - A suspected drunk driver was rushed to Christus Spohn Memorial with life threatening injuries after slamming into the back of a police car along Interstate 37 overnight.
The 41-year-old's Pontiac spun before striking the patrol car just as the officer was wrapping up the investigation of a hit and run crash. According to police, the officer's lights were on at the time of the crash.
The officer was treated and released at an area hospital. The driver was unconscious as crews freed him from the wreckage. Police say he later regained consciousness at the hospital where they determined he was likely under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
He may face charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with an invalid license.
