ARANSAS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE -- Folks over at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge say the drought's making it hard to count how many whooping cranes flocked to south Texas for the winter.
Only about two-thirds of the anticipated 300 whooping cranes have been accounted for.
The state's long drought withered fresh water and food supplies for the birds.
The refuge's manager also pointed out more birds are probably around here....but they're harder to spot.
He says their feeding area has been spread out due to the drought.
