CORPUS CHRISTI - Those of you driving out of town to celebrate the holiday this weekend will feel the pinch of rising gas prices.
Experts are saying the unrest in Iraq is one of the main reasons increase, but you've probably noticed gas prices have been climbing up for a while now.
"People used to really think nothing of driving to San Antonio for a little lower airfare," said travel advisor Phoebe Spencer. "But because of gas prices, they're realizing they are probably not saving that much money."
Prices here in the Coastal Bend are averaging around 3.39 per gallon. That's twenty-five cents higher than last years' price, and almost a whole dollar more than it was in 2010.
Gas isn't the only this going up, either. Airfare and hotel prices will also be higher this year. But, experts said many people will fork up the money and celebrate the holiday anyway.
"We can guarantee that millions of Americans will be driving for the busy July Fourth weekend," said AAA's Michael Green. "Especially because it's on a long weekend so really expect the roads to be busy, crowded, and full of high gas prices."
To save money on the road, be sure to check your tire pressure, get a tune up, and use your cruise control.
