BLAINE, Wash. - Police say a Canadian border guard was in stable condition at a hospital after she was wounded in a shooting at the Peace Arch Crossing near Blaine.
Sgt. Jennifer Pound also told The Canadian Press the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case as an attempted murder.
After wounding the guard, a man in a van with Washington license plates killed himself.
Names of the guard and the man have not been released, and the motive for the shooting is unknown.
The third busiest crossing on the Canadian border has been closed since the shooting at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The British Columbia travel information agency DriveBC says on its website the estimated reopening time for the crossing is 4 p.m. Wednesday.
