CORPUS CHRISTI - Two men involved in a brief police chase along Holly Road are now in custody. Around 2 p.m. police were heading towards Los Encinos Elementary school for a suspicious Dodge Neon seen driving on the grass near the portables.
Campus officials put a lockdown in effect for a short period of time out of precaution. At about the same time, someone else called 911 about a Dodge driving erratically near Greenwood and Holly.
An officer spotted the car along Holly Road heading towards Weber, but as soon as he turned on his lights to stop the driver, the car took off at dangerously high speeds. The officer canceled the chase to avoid putting anyone at risk.
Within minutes, the driver bailed out at Weber and Holly, leaving the passenger behind. He wisely surrendered to officers.
It took police less than 10 minutes to spot and take the suspected driver near Panama Drive.
No comment from police yet on why the driver felt he needed to run from police.
