CALALLEN - Mike Smith says he had proposed to 32-year-old Mary Elizabeth Prickett and planned to marry her sometime this month. Now, he's planning her funeral.

"I loved that woman with all my heart." Smith says he saw Prickett die just a few feet from his home on the 5700 block of County Road 73. He claims her ex-boyfriend, 52-year-old James Travis Lowman, is responsible.

Smith says he and Prickett were getting ready to leave his house when Lowman pulled up. According to Smith, he had a 'no trespassing' order, against Lowman, at his home.

Smith says his fiancee got scared and began walking away from his home and down CR 73. He claims that Lowman first drove past her, then put his truck in reverse. "I looked and here come the truck, and I said, 'Baby watch out. Watch out.' I screamed as loud as I could. And mowed her down and just killed her. And decapitated her." he recalled.

We asked Smith what Lowman did next. "And he just gets out if his truck and he just looks at her and he goes down the side of the road, and he starts yelling 'no. No.'"

Mary Prickett was the loving mother of 2 teen-aged children. Her sister, jackie Webb, had just seen her. "I just didn't want to believe it. I didn't want to believe it. That it was her," she told us, sobbing.

They say a parent should never have to experience the pain of the death of one of their own children. But Prickett made a telling comment to her mother the last time they saw one another. "I think she knew something was gonna happen because she kept sayin' 'I don't think I'm gonna live much longer mom."

Lowman remains in jail on a $200,000 bond. Investigators say the pending murder charge could change to involuntary manslaughter if evidence proves Lowman was only negligent in his actions, but did not intend to kill Prickett.
