ROBSTOWN - Three people from Mercedes, Texas were hurt in a crash with an 18-wheeler along Highway 77 early this morning.
Cpl. James Burdett with the Texas Department of Public Safety says the driver of their car veered off onto the shoulder and slammed into the side of the truck, between the truck and the trailer.
The truck was in the right lane going 55 miles per hour while the car may have been going 75. Burdett believes driver fatigue may be to blame. The group had left the Rio Grande Valley very early to make it to Victoria for business.
The driver and front passenger of the car were taken to the hospital by Halo Flight. The passenger who was laying down asleep in the back seat was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Cpl. Burdett still needs to talk to everyone in the car to get a better idea of what lead up to the crash.
The truck driver was not injured. He was just on his way to Robstown to unload some pipes.
