CORPUS CHRISTI - David Serda is lucky he got out of his truck this morning once he went racing into the Nueces River at Labonte Park. Serda admits he was running late for work when he swerved to avoid a slowing car on southbound Interstate 37.
His Nissan Titan clipped the backend of an 18-wheeler, went across a field, and into 12 feet of water. Serda was able to scramble to the passenger side and wiggle out the window to safety.
Police say Serda is at fault for the crash as he was likely speeding. The 18-wheeler he clipped shredded a tire, but no one was injured.
The Corpus Christi Police Department's Dive Team had to come out and hook up the Nissan so a tow truck could haul it out.
