MATHIS - A 59-year-old man with critical injuries was flown to an area hospital this morning after a rear-end collision with an 18-wheeler at FM 666 and CR 1136 just south of Mathis this morning.
A state trooper says both vehicles were headed away from Mathis when the truck came over a hill at highway speeds and rear-ended the Chevy Cavalier that was traveling very slowly.
The truck driver attempted to go around the slow car, but the other driver also swerved in the same direction. The cavalier was heavily damaged. The truck driver will not be cited for the crash.
Halo Flight emphasized that the driver of the car suffered significant, critical injuries. Officials have not released his name.
