CORPUS CHRISTI - A jury convicted Donna Taylor a short time ago for last year's murder of Floyd Scroggin. She now faces up to life in prison.
In January 2012, Taylor told police her gun accidentally fired when it fell out of her purse. A witness testified he heard Taylor scream "I shot him."
Scroggin was hit in the neck, but the bullet became lodged behind his heart. He died while medics rushed him to the hospital from his mobile home in Flour Bluff.
Prosecutors argue the path of the bullet is not consistent with Taylor's claim of an accidental shooting.
Taylor was questioned by police after the shooting, but she fled town before a warrant was issued for her arrest.
U.S. Marshals tracked her down weeks later at a home in College Station.
