CORPUS CHRISTI - Commercial dumping of toxic waste into a Coastal Bend waterway has garnered the attention of the District Attorney's office.
KRIS 6 News recently uncovered the problems in an Annaville neighborhood based on a viewer's tip. Residents say they've see trucks dumping sewage repeatedly.
So, why isn't anything done about it? D.A. Mark Skurka says prosecuting an illegal sewage dumping case can be difficult.
You have to be able to prove without a doubt that a person or company is responsible for dumping it, and what's even more complicated, you have to prove how much.
For the first time in recent memory, Skurka says his office has accepted an illegal sewage dumping case.
"Our office has prosecuted illegal dumping cases before, but it usually deals with trash or tires, or something like this. This is the first time I recall something regarding sewage," says District Attorney Mark Skurka.
The case is slated to be presented to a grand jury to decide whether it will go to trial.
