PORTLAND -- A two vehicle accident put two men in the hospital including a San Patricio County Sheriff's deputy just after 7 a.m.
Officials say the officer's patrol car was parked on the shoulder of Highway 181.
They say the Chevy pickup smashed into the back of the patrol car that was parked. Authorities say the officer was transported to Spohn Memorial to be checked out.
Officials don't believe he suffered any broken bones but he does have a bump on his head and likely experienced whiplash.
As for the driver of the truck, police are unaware of his injuries, they say he was trapped inside the truck and emergency crews had to cut him out of the vehicle. The man was also taken to the hospital to be treated for any injuries.
Officers say both vehicles were towed from the scene earlier Wednesday morning. Investigators were on location spray painting the areas where the truck rolled over and landed upside down in the center lane of the highway.
The wreck caused major traffic delays for morning drivers heading toward the Harbor Bridge. Crews worked quickly to remove all the debris from the roadway and used kitty litter to cover up the oil and liquid spills from the Chevy.
There's no word yet on whether the driver of the truck will be cited.
