HOUSTON - A deputy constable shot and killed a man during a confrontation inside a Harris County convenience store following a high-speed vehicle chase.
Capt. Jon Moore of the Harris County Constable's Office Precinct 3 says the man fatally shot Thursday had earlier eluded deputies during a chase in which the man's car reached speeds of about 100 mph. The man ran when the car crashed.
Later, a Harris County Constable's Office Precinct 3 sergeant located the suspect in the back area of the store, ordering him to stand up and show his hands.
Moore tells the Houston Chronicle the man began to comply but then crouched down and moved aggressively toward the sergeant. He appeared to have something in his hand.
Moore was uncertain if the man had a weapon.
