DENTON - Two large packs of dogs have been dumped in Denton County in recent days and authorities believe it's the response of puppy mill operators getting rid of overstock in light of new regulations that tighten restrictions on dog breeders.
Police were summoned early Tuesday to an area of Flower Mound after residents reported dozens of mixed-breed Maltese dogs running loose. Within an hour, 51 of the dogs had been rounded up. They were in relatively good shape and will now be put up for adoption unless the owner shows up to claim them.
The Dallas Morning news reports that one night earlier, another herd of dogs, this time cocker spaniels, was found in similar circumstances about 20 miles to the north in a rural area near Sanger.
