CORPUS CHRISTI -- Demolition crews on Monday began tearing down several vacant buildings near the Staples Street Station, making way for a new bus station.
The crews will demolish nine buildings in the block near Staples and Leopard Streets to allow for construction of a new, larger bus station.
The demolition phase is expected to take about three months, with construction starting after the buildings are torn down. The entire project is expected to take about a year-and-a-half.
The clock tower is the only part of the old station that will remain standing when the project is complete, crews said.
