AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas Senate has scheduled a new hearing on an abortion restrictions bill that has brought thousands of demonstrators to the state Capitol this week.
Sen. Jane Nelson, Republican chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, has scheduled a Monday 10 a.m. hearing at the Capitol. Senate Democrats have urged her to hold hearings around the state.
Nelson said the meeting will not be in the Senate chamber, where her committee typically meets and can hold several hundred people. After consulting with Capitol security, Nelson scheduled the meeting for a much smaller room in the Capitol extension.
More than 3,500 people registered as witnesses at a House committee hearing Tuesday night.
