Del Mar Regents and City Could Reach An Agreement On Safe Shelter

CORPUS CHRISTI -- A new safe shelter could be built by spring of 2015 on the Del Mar West Campus if the city and the Del Mar Regents reach an agreement.

The 20,000 sq. ft. dome-shaped safe shelter would be used as to protect people in the case of a tornado or hurricane. This would be for those who did not evacuate in time.

It would also be used as a training center and would house a continuing educational course.

FEMA would pay for $1.8 million of the $2.4 million bill.

This does not include furniture for the facility.
