CORPUS CHRISTI - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is proud to announce Dr. Robert Ballard, Oceanographer and Deep Sea Explorer, as the next speaker for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Spring 2013 Distinguished Speaker Series.
Dr. Ballard will speak on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 20, 2013. The moderator for the evening will be Mizell Stewart III, vice president of content for the E.W. Scripps Company's newspaper group.
The new liner R.M.S. Titanic struck an iceberg and sank beneath the icy waters of the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912. Seventy-three years later, Ballard and his team found the mighty legend in its watery grave 12,000 feet down on September 1, 1985. His latest endeavor entails working with engineers to improve technology on floating instrument platforms that he believes will enable colonization of the ocean.
Earlier this fall, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi presented renowned theoretical physicist Dr. Micho Kaku before a sold-out Performing Arts Center audience on September 13.
All net proceeds from the Distinguished Speaker Series go toward scholarships for students attending Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
