CORPUS CHRISTI - A smelly rotting animal didn't exactly help the pleasant eating environment a Westside restaurant was trying to create. Making matters worse they weren't getting any help cleaning it up from the city department they thought was responsible for it.
The manager of Taqueria Veracruz had to walk out to the sight of a dead rotting dog in front of her restaurant Saturday evening.
"When we came out I saw the dog there. I told my dad, and my dad called, they told him ok and told him they were going to pick it up. And today again, we reported it and several people have reported it," said manager Veronica Del Rosal.
The manager says they all called Animal Control to report the dog, but they never came.
"The dog is there. It looks bad because they open the door and the flys come in. And the patrons don't eat in peace," said Del Rosal.
So when the manager came to us for help we were able to find out they were calling the wrong department for help. It turns out, a new policy was put in place at the beginning of this year and Animal Control no longer picks up dead animals... The city's Solid Waste Department does.
So we called them and they were able to come out and get the dog right away. Now, Taqueria Veracruz won't be plagued by the smell and site of a decaying dog.
Remember if you have a dead animal on your property put it by the street and call solid waste to pick it up, and not Animal Control.
