CORPUS CHRISTI - Despite some severe weather moving through the area on Monday, voters turned out in surprisingly high numbers on day one of the early voting period.
Almost 1,100 ballots came in on Monday, according to the latest data from the Nueces County Elections web site.
It's a fast start compared to the 2011 proposition election, when fewer than 200 early voters turned out on day one.
Officials told KRIS-6 on Monday morning that interest in the proposed, $44 million first phase of the Destination Bayfront park project, is driving people to the polls this year.
