DALLAS (AP) - Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus and other party officials have entered the arena where Dallas hopes to host the 2016 Republican convention.
Priebus on Thursday walked a red carpet into the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas, with about 100 people cheering. He posed on Victory Plaza between two elephants - the symbol of the Republican Party.
Priebus is expected to speak with reporters about Dallas' convention bid. Also expected to appear are former Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, a Democrat.
American Airlines Center would serve as the convention site if Dallas' bid is successful.
Dallas is competing with Denver, Cleveland and Kansas City.
