CORPUS CHRISTI -- The crosswalk where an elderly woman was struck and killed earlier this month is getting some safety upgrades.
Elva Gonzalez, 75, was struck and killed while crossing Ayers Street near Roosevelt Drive on Jan. 9. The driver told police he had no time to react once he saw her in the road.
The city has added an additional four seconds to the crosswalk signal, allowing pedestrians more time to cross the busy street. They also plan to add audible noises to alert pedestrians when it is safe to cross.
Mike Manzoni will have more on this tonight on 6 News at five and six.
