REFUGIO - The southbound side of Highway 77 was shut down overnight at the Refugio-San Pat county line so crews could pick up auto parts that were scattered on the road.
Authorities say around 1 a.m. the driver of an 18-wheeler hauling some produce pulled over to check his refrigeration unit. A second big rig driver, hauling a load for O'reilly's Auto Parts slammed into the back of the produce truck.
The driver of the second rig was airlifted to a hospital, but his injuries are not life-threatening. The other driver was not injured.
The impact left packages of auto parts scattered all over the highway. It took several hours to get everything picked up.
