CORPUS CHRISTI - A couple is jailed on charges they beat and starved one of their children. Jose Franco III, 34, and and Amanda Gonzales, 29, were arrested on Thursday after their 12-year old son told police he was being abused.
According to court documents, the child told police "on Sunday May 12 he was spanked 30 times with the belt and struck 10 times with the pinata stick by Amanda Gonzales. The boy says the beating came because he went number two on himself."
The child told officers he was forced to wear diapers because he was only allowed "30 seconds in the restroom and if he stayed longer Gonzales would count the minutes he stayed over and spank him that many times."
Then when it came to showering he was only allowed "to take a bath once a week, and he was not allowed soap."
The documents also states that after the child was checked out by a doctor at Driscoll they found bruising to his lower back, bottom and thighs and even swelling to his knees and feet which was believed to be from standing for long periods of time.
The child told officers that happened quite often. That he would, "stand in the corner for hours at a time 'sometimes all day'."
During these times in the corner he said he was never called to eat.
When officers spoke with the child's teachers they said he, "would steal food and take discarded food out of the classroom trash can and cafeteria trash can for his consumption."
Franco and Gonzales are in jail with a $100,000. Their six children are now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
