Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Latchkey Program

CORPUS CHRISTI - Some area kids got a first hand lesson on how to work as a team, while getting bombed with balloons. Almost 150 kids took part in a fun run and obstacle course set up at Kostoryz Elementary this afternoon.

The kids battled foam hurdles, tire climbing, balance beams and other challenges during the summertime heat as part of the latchkey summer camp. The program teaches the youth about the importance of fitness.

"It's a great way to get the children involved. It's not just them running, they're doing something fun. They don't really know that they're just to run, they're actually doing different activities and getting the fitness in as well," says organizer Ericka Maldonado.

The city offers these summer camps through the first of August. More information at the city's Parks and Recreation website -
