KINGSVILLE - A woman trying to pass slower traffic on Highway 141 is blamed for a head-on crash that killed 57-year-old Zack Stevens of Corpus Christi.
DPS Corporal Charlie Ramirez says Desiree Perez was travelling with her 5-year-old son when she tried passing other cars.
There just wasn't enough room for her Chrysler which slammed into Stevens' Honda Civic.
Stevens died at the scene. Perez and her son were taken to hospitals in Corpus Christi for serious injuries. Both are expected to survive.
The crash shut down the main highway between Kingsville and Highway 281 for several hours.
