CORPUS CHRISTI - Destination Bayfront is proving to be the most heated issue in Texas this election season.
The Secretary of State is reporting that Corpus Christi is ahead of huge areas like Houston and Austin in voter turnout.
About 5.5 percent of registered Nueces County voters - a little more than 11,000 - have cast ballots since polls opened on October 21st.
That is five times more than showed up in the 2011 Constitutional election.
County Elections Manager Rochelle Limon said the turn out is due to the groundswell of support for - or opposition to - the $45 million Destination Bayfront project.
She said they expect another 1,000 people at the polls before the early voting period ends tonight at 7 p.m.
Election day is Tuesday.
