Corpus Christi is One of the Top Job Creators in Texas

Corpus Christi - The Eagle Ford Shale has been a huge growth engine in South Texas over the past couple of years, not only creating jobs but huge population booms. And as you drive Interstate 37 through Corpus Christi it's a constant stream of 18-wheelers, big rigs filled with petroleum products. According to Dr. Ray Perryman, an economic researcher, Corpus Christi is seeing a rebirth in jobs and industry, and it's all thanks to the energy boom.
"This area is one of the two or three in the state that's really is enjoying the significant energy boom right now," says Dr. Perryman.
It's because of places like Flint Hills Resources that Dr. Perryman estimates the job growth in Corpus Christi will be at or above the state average for the next 5 to 10 years.
"The area is going through an amazing renaissance right now. With the combination of the eagle ford shale driving a lot of things, that's causing more input for the petrochemical facilities more demand for those products," says Dr. Perryman.
So as a result many companies are expanding, which means more jobs to fill.
"It's a great time to be here and there are a lot of wonderful amenities here, and it's a beautiful place to begin with. And when you can add all of this economic development that is taking place right now I think it points to a very bright future," says Dr. Perryman.
While the closing of the Ingleside Naval Station in 2010 was a temporary set back to the local economy, Dr. Perryman says those jobs have more than been replaced by this latest energy boom. He predicts big growths in population and development to continue for the area.
